3-D Artist / Maya Generalist / Virtual Production Specialist / Visual Effects Artist
My name is Dean Deakyne, and I am a Visual Effects Generalist for film and television, a Video Game Developer, a Virtual Production Specialist with Unreal Engine, and an experienced 3D Instructor. For over ten years, I developed and taught multiple programs at Wilmington University and the Los Angeles Film School (LAFS), including Video Motion Graphics (VMG), Video Game Design (GMD), Visual Effects for Film & Television (VFX), and the Graphic Design Program (DSN). During my time at LAFS, I gained valuable teaching experience, which I continue to apply in my current endeavors.
I have worked as a visual effects artist on feature films and television shows based in Hollywood, California. Early in my career, I attended the Gnomon School of Visual Effects. Within my first semester, I was hired as a resident artist at the Gnomon Workshop. After graduating, I went directly into the film industry, but eventually felt a desire to share my knowledge with others. I began teaching at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where I became the first instructor to teach ZBrush and Maya on campus.
In addition to my film, game, and teaching background, I am highly versatile with a wide range of industry-standard software applications. I continuously keep myself up to date with the latest updates, features, toolsets, and techniques. In my free time, I enjoy pushing the boundaries of what is possible and exploring every aspect of the visual effects pipeline.
